June 2025 End-of-Month Wrap-up
I gotta get to sleep now that I'm done with this, so I'm not gonna bother relaying the tiny bit of text I put in the RSS feed, check it yourself if you feel like it.
Linux
Still working on those Linux posts! As I said in the earlier post about my one year of Arch, the loss of part of the text really killed a bunch of the momentum I had previously. Doesn't mean I've got nothing, but I'm just not on the roll I was before.
On the note of Linux, my EndeavourOS desktop install inexplicably stopped being able to detect the existence of my wifi card, for reasons I still don't understand.
No big deal, honestly, since after not getting anywhere with my troubleshooting, I just did a new stock-Arch install. It feels great to be back on Arch with no extra frills. Even just hanging around in the live ISO again was immensely soothing.
(If only the dumbass living room TV was nearly as pleasant and co-operative, and didn't keep thinking my desktop is displaying a resolution that doesn't even exist.)
Setting up after the installation was a night filled with fucking around with KDE Plasma features I never even knew existed, and looking around on the Flatpak frontend and finding apps I never even knew existed. Splendid.
Music
I mentioned in some commentary on a doodle in my gallery page that I got an audio interface!
In an act of extreme generosity, my brother offered to get me an early birthday gift just as we were going out the door to the music shop up north, and I picked out a Scarlett 2i2.
I haven't recorded anything very official yet, but I'm working on writing something at the moment that'll be the first thing up on the recording list. Right now I'm trying to write up just a few more melodies solid enough to record into snippets that I can compose into a final structure.
This song was originally meant to be in A Major, because as I mentioned ages ago on a now inaccessible page on here, I ended up transposing the way that Subwoofer Lullaby from Minecraft arpeggiates a maj7 chord up from Cmaj7 to Amaj7 and found how inconsolably bittersweet it sounds.
However, as I've picked back up on writing the concept, I've noticed that for some reason, the natural 4th to the major scale just completely kills the vibe, so I've actually been writing the song in A Lydian instead.
I'll talk more about the details of the tonality later, but I'll end off here by saying that right now I mainly need to rhythmically reinforce the melodies I've written so far, and I haven't actually chosen a core rhythm to riff off of yet. I'll probably write it in 6|4 meter, but I don't even know if that's set in stone.
Just one more thing, though: I've got another blog post to share, also about music. I may add to it some more later but it's complete enough to show off. It's some ramblings about some different riffs I've been learning on bass recently.
